Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Leah Hugon. I once read a quote in a magazine that said "a good life is found only where the creative spirit abounds, where people are free to experiment and create new ideas with in them selves". This quote encompasses the energy and spirit that drives me toward anything good in my own life. Both my educational and religious backgrounds have been a source of tension and inspiration along my creative journey. My art education was forged in the California public school system encouraged and discouraged by the teachers I encountered there. As for higher education I attended a private conservative christian university and found, again, professors that censored and belittled me and those who invested in me. There has always been a tension between the church and the arts, between the conservative and the explorer, my experience has been no different. After earning a degree in studio art I didn't know what to do with my self, so I became a barista, which lead to me managing a corporately owned coffee shop. Professionally things looked o.k. but at this point in my life I was chosing to reject the artist with in. My life in the church, in the educational system, and in the constraining structure of corporate America was like a fire, an intense energy brought on by the friction of who I was and where I was. Just as a spark ignites dry tinder, the sparks from this friction ignited any doubt I had about my self as a creative individual. And here I am, and here you are perusing the images that have been born out of my life. I currently live in Portland OR, I work part time at an art supply store and I create. The works here on my blog are done in acrylic, some have mixed media elements in them such as fabric and found object, some are painted directly on to found objects. They are all inspired by collages that I create. Making collages was one of the first steps I took in truly discovering my self as an artist.
